| 1.2 Describe how it is based on evidence of effectiveness through monitoring and reports such as Mental Health Resource Quality Assessment. | Evidence of effectiveness: Research and programme evaluations consistently show that physical activity and time in nature improve mental health outcomes. Activities like wild swimming and social running combine several factors known to support wellbeing: – Physical activity – Exercise releases endorphins and can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. – Nature exposure (“green/blue space”) – Being in natural environments such as rivers, lakes, or parks has been linked with reduced stress and improved mood. – Social connection – Group activities help reduce isolation and increase a sense of belonging, which is important for mental wellbeing. – Routine and structure – Regular group sessions can support motivation and positive habits. Monitoring and reporting: The effectiveness of these activities is often demonstrated through monitoring and evaluation processes, including: – Attendance and engagement data showing consistent participation and retention. – Self-reported wellbeing improvements, such as increased confidence, reduced loneliness, or better stress management. Mental Health Resource Quality Assessment (MHRQA): Frameworks such as the Mental Health Resource Quality Assessment are used to assess whether a wellbeing resource is safe, evidence-informed, accessible, and beneficial for mental health. Activities like wild swimming and running socials can meet these criteria when they: – Promote safe and supportive participation. – Are facilitated or guided appropriately. – Provide inclusive opportunities for social support and physical activity. – Demonstrate positive outcomes through monitoring and evaluation reports. |
